How We Write

We write to you the way your best friend talks to you when it is just the two of you.

Where our advice comes from

Every article here is original, written by our writers from their own lives, their own mistakes and the conversations grown women have with each other at kitchen tables, on long phone calls and in the car outside the house. Nothing is copied from anyone else.

How we talk to you

  • Like a friend, not a lecture. Warm, direct and honest, even when the truth is not what you hoped to hear.
  • No judgment. Married, divorced, widowed, single, starting over: your chair is welcome here.
  • No shame, no preaching. We will tell you what we think and why, and then trust you to decide.

What we check

When an article says something you could look up, like a health, money, legal or research fact, we check it against a reliable source and list that source at the end of the article. Opinions are labelled as opinions.

What we are not

We are not your therapist, doctor or lawyer. Our articles are friendly advice and general information, not professional counseling. If something you are going through is heavy or unsafe, please talk to a professional; our Disclaimer lists people you can call any time.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it. See our Corrections Policy, or tell us through the Contact page.
